The reverse side features Edo engraving with gold and silver foil hammered into it and a diamond Queen of the Night (Gekka Bijin). Naoko Tamura of “METALHEARTS” is passing on the ancient Japanese craft technique of chōkin (metal engraving), which has flourished along with Buddhism, by incorporating it into jewelry and crafts. She studied under goldsmith Morihito Katsura, a living national treasure, and mastered the technique of uchidashi (repoussé). She strives to create various techniques of expression that have been lost in the modern age, with the desire to “pass on Japanese techniques to be proud of to as many people as possible in the world” as her starting point.
