Large Jacquard Umbrella in Hogushi Fabric (16 Ribs for Women)
●Material:Fabric: Polyester 100%, Shaft: Oak, Ribs: Carbon Fiber, Handle: Maple, Strap: Rayon
●Size:W10×D84×H8cm / 380g
●Unlike regular umbrellas printed with photographic prints, Hogushi weaving uses separate stencils for each color and applies the patterns by hand dyeing (tenassen). Hogushi weaving involves temporarily weaving the warp threads and applying patterns only to the warp. When the weft threads are added during the final weaving process, the temporary warp threads are manually removed, resulting in slight misalignments that create a unique depth and warmth not found in printed patterns. The soft colors and deep texture are distinctive features.
●Artist:Mont Blanc Co., Ltd.
“Montblanc Yamaguchi” is a Western umbrella manufacturer founded in 1960. The hogushi-ori technique, which is synonymous with the company, is a complex process that involves weaving a tentative cloth with one tentative thread every few centimeters, applying colors one by one by hand printing, removing the dyed threads, and then weaving the cloth again. This technique is passed on to the next generation by Kimie Yamaguchi, a traditional craftsman. “On a dreary rainy day, I want people to have an umbrella that makes them feel better, even just mood-wise”, says Yamaguchi as she inherits the romanticism of the first generation and continues to hone her craft every day.
