EDOKOMON LEATHER CARD CASE
●Material:Cowhide
●Size:10.5cm×H6.5cm×2cm/24g
●The more you use this leather case, the more comfortable it will become in your hands as it’s decorated with delicate “Edo-komon” patterns hand-made by craftsmen. The Edo period was a time when bans on luxury were often made and even extravagant patterns were forbidden. As a result, fine patterns were dyed in such a way that they could be mistaken for plain patterns when seen from a distance. As craftsmen competed with each other for the finest details, many brilliant designs were created.
●Artist:SARAKICHI
Founded in 1914, “Tomita Senko-gei” is a workshop that dyes Edo komon and Edo sarasa. The workshop, which creates a charming atmosphere with its old tools, is also a treasure house where 120,000 pieces of Ise-katagami are stored. Atsushi Tomita, the fifth-generation owner, has discovered the value of dyed komon in traditional patterns and has planned and proposed various products for modern life, such as scarves and parasols, using Edo komon and Edo sarasa stencils. He continues to take on the challenge of creating new value.
