Sake cup-"Drop"
●Material:Tin
●Size:5.2cm×高さ9.2cm
●Artist:Koto Miyata
In 1987, Kozan Nakamura established a workshop in Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture. For many years, he was fascinated by the indescribably soft luster of “rokuro-biki” tin (tin processing on the turning lathe), and decided to change the name of his company to “SUZUKOU”. The current head of SUZUKOU was working in other company when SUZUKOU was established and after three years of working in other company and helping SUZUKOU, he left the company in 1995 to study under his father, Kozan Nakamura. The founder Kozan Nakamura was recognized as a “Contemporary Master Craftsman” in 2001 for his handiwork, such as the “rokuro-biki” technique, and was awarded the Medal with Yellow Ribbon for Industriousness in 2003 (He died in 2005).As a person who has experienced every movement of handiwork of the founder, a “Contemporary Master Craftsman” and influenced by his pride and spirituality as a craftsman, the current head of SUZUKOU is working to pass on the techniques of “rokuro-biki” and “surface decoration”. SUZUKOU is dedicated to handwork, especially the “rokuro-biki” technique, which has seen a drastic decrease in the number of workers.

The “rokuro-biki” products produced by SUZUKOU are carefully finished by hand using tools. This sake cup has a streamlined form and a water pattern-like foot, all of which are made by “rokuro-biki” technique. It is designed to look like a “drop” falling and splashing on the water. It is a tall cup, mainly for aperitifs, to take a sip. It can also be used to serve cold sake in a moderately stylish size (40ml). The solid weight (110g) unique to tin gives it a sense of luxury.
